Downtown Businesses Going Green

Going for Green Pledge:

...."I pledge to the community to make “Going for Green” part of my way of doing business in Darien. As I make decisions for my business, I will consider green options to help make Darien, and the Earth, a safe and hospitable home for present and future generations. "

The Going for Green Campaign is well underway. We are excited about the enthusiasm from all of the groups in town that include businesses, residents, and the town hall in this effort to create awareness and move the community of Darien to a greener future. The group is planning many events that will span the month of April and the two local papers have been in attendance at our meetings and have pledged to give this as much media exposure as possible through op-ed articles, letters to the editor, weekly publishing of going green tips, and acknowledging the businesses in town who are pledging to go green and recognizing the efforts they have already made towards this end. We have the high school graphic arts class entering poster designs for a contest. Mary Ferrara from the PCI Group has offered to donate posters (made of recycled stock!) for all the participating stores and businesses. We are also working on an attractive decal that can be placed on windows of stores who have taken the green pledge.  Everyone that accepts the pledge can list up to three things they are currently doing in their business that is a step toward "Going for Green".  This is a tremendous opportunity for us to make Darien the Greenest town around. Hopefully, the renewed interest in the business community will put us in a leadership role to work with the rest of the community towards a common goal.
